How We Help

How it Works

Step 1: Initial Consultation

Time Estimate: 1 Hour
Location: In-person at The Kelter Center or by phone

We discuss concerns about your child’s learning development and why you are interested in supplementing classroom instruction. We ask questions about your child’s ability to perform in school, how he or she handles homework, and what areas of learning cause stress or frustration. We review any reports or testing you already have about your child.

Step 2: Educational Assessment

Time Estimate: 2-3 Hours
Location: In-person at The Kelter Center

We use best-in-class standardized educational tests assess your child’s ability to read, spell, write and do mathematics. We evaluate underlying processing skills that support your child’s academic abilities, and determine what your child understands, what causes your child confusion and what skills are inefficient.

Step 3: Results of Educational Assessment and Individualized Program with Measurable Goals

Time Estimate: 30 Minutes – 1 Hour
Location: In-person at The Kelter Center or by phone

We prepare a written report detailing your child’s assessment results to discuss with you. We also answer any questions you have about areas of efficiencies and inefficiencies in your child’s learning development. We then present an individualized educational program with measurable goals that correspond to the needs of your child.

Step 4: Professional Educator Selection

We have an unparalleled roster of Professional Educators all of whom have gone through extensive training in our teaching methods. We select an educator for your child based on personality match, experience teaching the specific goals for your child, and convenience for your schedule. Click here to see some educator profiles

Step 5: One-on-One Instruction with Frequent Feedback, Reporting and Support

At The Kelter Center, we recommend that students attend two one-hour sessions per week of one-on-one instruction. We establish a “receptive learning state” where we foster the optimal climate for teaching and share our educational goals with your child. The goals are measurable and we provide you monthly reports detailing your child’s progress. On a quarterly basis, we provide a more in-depth report and can re-test specific skills to evaluate the progress your child has made since the original assessment.

At all times, parents have access to the considerable resources of The Kelter Center’s Professional Educator team and our Chief Educational Director.

Step 6: Ongoing Collaboration

We pride ourselves on the transparency of our process and our ongoing collaboration. With your permission, we share progress reports with a child’s classroom teacher, school administrator, psychologist and other allied professionals involved in a child’s learning development. By collaborating with other professionals, we benefit from each other’s individual contributions to the unified goals.

Step 7: Self-Sufficient Learning

Upon completing the goals, your child will be a more confident, self-sufficient learner who is better equipped to keep up with the pace of classroom instruction and has developed life-long learning skills. We like to keep in touch with our students and parents even after they leave the center and are always available for advice and guidance as your child faces new challenges and opportunities in school.
